Merseyside clubs handed quadruple blow after FA Cup draw

Four Merseyside teams have been dealt an FA Cup blow after dates for the competition were announced ahead of next season.

Step six clubs - nine divisions below the Premier League - were chosen at random and AFC Liverpool, Lower Breck, Pilkington and Vauxhall Motors have unfortunately missed out.

The draw comes as a double blow to AFC, Lower Breck and Vauxhall who were all in pole position for promotion when the non-league season was ruled null and void by the Football Association following the outbreak of coronavirus earlier this year.

Motors had mathematically sealed their ascension but will start next season in the North West Counties Football League First Division South.

The FA Cup extra preliminary round will kick-off on September 1 with 737 teams accepted into the format as a whole and Merseyside will be represented by step six clubs St. Helens Town and Cammell Laird 1907.

Marine, Prescot Cables, City of Liverpool and Southport will also enter the competition.
