A Merseyside beauty spot has been named in a list of the country's top beaches.
Ainsdale beach was ranked as one of the UK's top 20 beaches by travel company HomeToGo. As the summer draws closer and the days get longer people will be looking ahead to what they're going to be doing this summer.
HomeToGo compiled a list of the best beaches, ranking each on the median price per night for nearby holiday accommodation, visitor rating and water quality. While Sefton's coastline boasts a number of popular beaches, it's Ainsdale that came out top.

The coastal gateway is known to many for its controversial Pontins resort and Toad Hall mural, but the sandy dunes and blue sea have proven a popular choice for those wanting a getaway by the beach. The Sefton shore was chosen as the 19th best in the country, just three spots behind North West neighbour Lytham St Annes beach.
According to the travel company, the median price for a night in Ainsdale is £141.44, with the visitor rating being 3.5/5. The water quality was deemed as good and had an overall score of 17.9/30.
Lancashire's neighbouring beach was had a median price per night of £109.96 with a visitor rating of 3.6/5, just edging Ainsdale. The beach was given good for water quality and given an overall score of 21.7/30.
Three of the top five beaches are all in Wales, with Llandanwg Beach, Gwynedd taking the top spot. The top five beaches are
