Merseyside beach could look very different as parade to be cleared

The appearance of one Merseyside beach could change as the council plans to clear the parade of boats.

In February, Wirral Council asked the owners of more than 30 mostly unused boats, dinghys and other related items at Meols Parade in Wirral to come forward and collect their goods.

Those who owned boats on the parade were told they must move their vessels or face the risk of having them taken away.

The local authority said some boats were in “serious disrepair” and were causing a safety hazard.

These boats were cordoned off to warn people to avoid them.

Since then, Wirral Council has continued to try to identify the owners so that their marine items can be removed.

It is understood the authority extended the time vessel owners were given to collect their boats.

One of the reasons for this was that some boat-owners were shielding.

This meant they could not go to Meols Parade and collect their vessels as the local authority had instructed them to do.

Today, the authority issued this update.

A spokesperson for Wirral Council said: “The majority of the items have been moved, with a few more due to go very soon.

“We will start the process for clearing the area over the next week.”
