Merseyrail trains delayed or cancelled after 'welfare incident'

Merseyrail trains were cancelled and delayed due to a welfare incident in Ormskirk.

British Transport Police were called to Ormskirk train station at around 6pm on Wednesday, August 18 over a concern for the welfare of a woman.

Merseyrail trains on the line between Liverpool and Ormskirk were cancelled and delayed during this time, with some people being asked to get off trains at Town Green or Sandhills.

British Transport Police has confirmed the woman was taken into the care of Lancashire Police at around 6.30pm.

Merseyrail said customers may see further disruption following the incident, they said: "Following an earlier welfare incident at Ormskirk, services on the Ormskirk line have now resumed.

"Services may however be subject to some residual delays and possible short notice cancellation."
