Merseyrail services halted after person hit by a train

Trains have been halted after reports a person has been hit by a train.

Some Merseyrail services are being cancelled, delayed or terminated to allow emergency services access to the incident on the Southport to Hunts Cross line.

It is believed the person was hit by a train between Formby and Freshfield just after 9pm.

All services are currently suspended between Southport and Hall Road, according to Merseyrail, while others are travelling with delays.

On Twitter, Merseyrail said: "Due to reports of a person being struck by a train in the Freshfield area- Services on our Southport and Hunts Cross line are currently suspended between Southport and Hall Road."

Rail replacement buses have been requested to facilitate passengers between the affected stations.

Another tweet stated: "Due to a person being struck by a train in the Freshfield area- Services remain suspended between Southport and Hall Road.

"Rail replacement buses are expected on site within the next 30 minutes."

The condition of the person hit by the train is not yet know but emergency services are believed to be on scene between the two affected stations.
