Mersey Police Dog Annie played a massive part in the crime fight last night as she worked alongside officers in the Merseyside Police to help locate a stolen vehicle.
The four-legged colleague was first at the scene and, according to officers, "quickly showed her handler which way the offenders had gone".
She also sniffed out the "forensics they left behind" to help piece together the jigsaw officers needed.
Police dogs are trained with positive reinforcement to produce a happy, well-adjusted dog.
They are loyal to their handlers and do what they tell them because they enjoy it, which is why a strong bond is formed.
Dog and handler initially have to attend a three-month course at a dog training school where both learn to work together. Training includes obedience, search, tracking and obeying commands.
Both will learn to work as a team to have all the necessary skills to work in the police dog unit.
