A man who allegedly ransacked a Merewether home and stole a handbag, jewellery, cash, a laptop and credit cards has been charged.
Newcastle police were called to a home on Rembrandt Drive, Merewether Heights, on June 20 after reports of a break and enter.
At the scene, officers were told the door had allegedly been forced open and the home ransacked.
Police will allege in court that later that same day, eight fraudulent transactions were made across Newcastle with the stolen cards.
After inquiries, Newcastle City Police District officers searched a home on Sun Hill Drive, Merewether Heights, about 11.30am on Tuesday.
During the search, police allegedly found and seized several items of interest, including a handbag, purse, cards, two gel blaster firearms, two knuckledusters, a slingshot and a Taser.
A 41-year-old man was arrested nearby and taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with 14 offences.
The charges include seven counts of fraud; two counts of possessing suspected stolen goods; two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon without a permit; break, enter and steal; receiving stolen property and possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm.
The man was granted strict conditional bail and will appear before Newcastle Local Court on July 16.
