California Governor Gavin Newsom posted on social media about a Fox News poll showing public opinion on President Trump’s latest legislative push.
The poll asked voters about “The One Big Beautiful Bill” and found that 59% of people oppose it while 38% favor it. The survey was conducted from June 13-16, 2025, among registered voters. Newsom shared the poll results with his followers on Twitter. He included a screenshot of the Fox News poll image that showed the opposition and support numbers. The poll data came with a margin of error of +/-3%.
Newsom wrote, “Nothing like working on behalf of the American people!!” along with the poll image. His comment suggested that the high opposition numbers showed Trump was not working in the public’s interest. The post quickly gained attention with thousands of views and responses from other users.
Poll shows strong opposition across different groups
The Fox News poll revealed that opposition to Trump’s bill extends across various voter groups. Independent voters showed the strongest opposition, with 73% against the legislation and only 22% supporting it. This represents a significant gap that could influence the bill’s political future.
The Senate is currently voting on this Republican budget legislation. The House already passed the bill last month, but it was a close vote with the measure passing by just one vote. This narrow margin highlighted the challenges Trump faces in building support for his agenda.

Multiple polling organizations have found similar results showing the bill’s unpopularity. The consistent opposition across different polls suggests that public sentiment is firmly against the proposed legislation. Pollsters noted that the opposition numbers have remained steady over several weeks of surveying.
The Twitter exchange also brought attention to Newsom’s own approval ratings in California. Recent polling shows that 44% of California adults approve of Newsom’s job performance while 54% disapprove. Among likely voters, 46% approve and 53% disapprove of how he is handling his role as governor. A national YouGov poll from June 2025 found that 34% of Americans view Newsom favorably while 39% view him unfavorably. These numbers show that Newsom faces his own political challenges while criticizing Trump’s legislative efforts.
