Merchant City bar Citation submit planning permission for 192-seat beer garden

Merchant City bar and restaurant Citation have submitted an application for planning permission to extend their outdoor seating area by a whopping 192 seats.

Citation, the bar situated in the historic Old Sheriff Court building, rebranded as a wedding venue in 2020 after undergoing a major refurbishment.

Boasting period features, exposed brick walls, a show stopping split staircase dotted with fairy lights and a cascading floral balcony, Citation will be able to host weddings and dinners as an exclusive space for hire.

The Old Sheriff Court building is a B-listed building.

The proposed plans for Citation (Glasgow City Council)

If accepted, the application would allow the venue to increase their outdoor seating to 192 guests.

The application submitted to Glasgow City Council shows hopes for an extended seating area onto Wilson Street, Hutcheson Street and Brunswick Street.

The area already has venues with outdoor seating including surrounding Gallery Bar, Amsterdam Bar, Cranberries Cafe and Brewdog among others.

The public can submit comments to the application on the council's online portal, and the last date is on April 9.

Beer Gardens and outdoor seating venues will open on April 26 in line with coronavirus restrictions.
