Mercedes seized by police after driver caught speeding in Manchester cycle lane

A Mercedes car has been seized after its driver was caught speeding along a cycle lane.

The vehicle was stopped by GMP traffic officers in Bridgwater Way and reported for his offences, which included having no insurance.

The traffic cops took to Twitter to tell the public about the incident.

They tweeted: "Driver of this vehicle thought his car was a pedal cycle!

"Travelling at speed, along a dedicated cycle lane, past an unmarked traffic car isn’t the best idea when you don’t have insurance! Vehicle stopped on Bridgwater Way, driver reported and vehicle seized."

One Twitter user replied: "How is it there are still so many uninsured drivers on the roads ?

"And why is it they seem to drive expensive cars ? Something very wrong somewhere."

Another responded: "Because @DVLAgovuk system stinks, same goes for car tax and MOT, offences are widespread "

And one user said: "It is wrong whilst these are still in place, but when are they being removed, cyclists don’t care where they ride either way, and I have not seen any real stats that show they have benefited?"

Which prompted the reply: "They're not being replaced, these are temporary with cones and proper walking and cycling lanes are going to be built in their place."
