Vision 6 Cabriolet concept features a long and sleek body and houses an electric motor that could become a production reality.

Haven’t I seen this before?
You probably have, but not exactly in this form. At the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach last year, Mercedes-Benz displayed the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Coupe.
And this year at the same Californian event, the open-top version of it is being shown called Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet. Like in the fixed-top concept car, this soft-top version is hollering an ultra-long and sleek-looking body measuring 5.7m.
The design has been kept as tidy as possible including slim front and rear lights to allow the prominent grille and 24-inch wheels to stand out. Likewise, the interior has a simple fascia design and takes only two persons.

It’s a pure EV, right?
That’s right. Under the long bonnet sits an electric motor developing 750hp which allows for 500km of CO2-less driving. There’s a quick charging system that can replenish juice in 5min for a touring range of 100km.
Now that Mercedes is pursuing electrification in all of its models (AMG-badged cars included), there’s a good chance that this technology will become a production reality in the future.

Are the prospects similar for the vehicle itself?
You could regard the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet as a potential rival for posh open-top cars like the Rolls-Royce Dawn. However, the Dawn has four seats.
Actually, the Stuttgart carmaker already has an answer for the Dawn in the guise of the limited production Mercedes-Maybach S-class Cabriolet, of which only 300 are made.
That said, you could expect the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet (together with the Coupe sibling) to preview the future design of Maybach. Of more significance would probably be the electric drivetrain.
