Mercedes fatally collides with man in his 40s in Stockport as police appeal for information

A man has died after being struck by a car in Stockport last night.

Police officers were called to Silk Close to reports that a car having collided with a man at around 7.50pm.

A silver Mercedes ML was travelling along Churchgate when it turned left into Silk Close.

The car then collided with the man. The driver stopped at the scene and no arrests have been made.

Emergency services attended but despite best efforts, the man – who is believed to be in his 40s – was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: "His family has been informed and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

"While enquiries into the collision are ongoing, officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision and anyone who saw the man [who died in the collision] prior to the incident to come forward."

Describing the man who died in the collision as part of the appeal for information, police said he was white, in his 40s, 6ft2 and of stocky build.

"Anyone with information should contact GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident number 2713 of 16/08/19 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
