Mercedes chief gives stance on move for Lando Norris as Lewis Hamilton's 2022 partner

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has ruled-out a swoop for McClaren's Lando Norris in the upcoming driver's market.

Formula 1 teams are set to make their decisions on their drivers for the 2022 season, which will see the introduction of vast regulation changes, and Mercedes are among them.

Valtteri Bottas' sub-par drives so far this season have raised the prospect of a new partner for Lewis Hamilton next season, with George Russell, currently on loan at Williams, the favourite to come in.

However, there has also been murmurs than an ambitious move could be made to try and make Max Verstappen or Lando Norris defect from their current teams.

That would be a sensational outcome, with it being rare to see two title-contending drivers on the same team, but there's no doubd it would also be a significant statement of intent.

However, Wolff has made it pretty clear that such a move for Hamilton's title rival or Bristol-born Norris will not be happening.

"I think that Verstappen and his entourage are very happy where they are. Red Bull is their team and is their home, and why not keep it like that?" He told GPFans Global.

"I think we have our plans with our drivers, and Ferrari has a great line-up, and Lando Norris at McLaren looks pretty settled, so I think the trajectory is set.

"We're not looking for a driver. We want to take the decision in the summer [break]. There are a variety of opinions also within the team and the Daimler board, and we just need to stick our heads together and say, 'Okay, what is everybody thinking?'"

The second-half of the Formula 1 season begins this weekend at Belgium, which commences the start of a frantic period of five races over six weeks.
