Mercedes-Benz expands sports car lineup with GT C and GT R

AMG-fettled roadster and hardcore coupe launched in Thailand with prices starting at just over 16 million baht.

Mercedes-Benz Thailand has expanded the GT sports car range with the addition of an open-top model and high-performance variant.

The GT C Roadster comes with the same AMG-developed 4.0-litre twin-turbo as in the regular GT and GT S albeit a higher 557hp. The GT R, meanwhile, boasts an even higher 585hp. Both get seven-speed dual-clutch automatic driving just the rear wheels.

To comply with the latest design language of AMG’s ultimate sports car family, the GT C Roadster and GT R comes with the so-called Panamericana face featuring vertically-slatted front grille.

While the GT C Roadster costs from 16.8 million baht, the GT R is priced from 17.4 million baht and could be specified with more options governing the chassis. Both cars will be displayed at the 2017 Motor Expo next week.

Also set to appear at the year-ending motor show is the Porsche 911 4 GTS. The all-wheel-drive Porsche gets 450hp 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6, seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and is set to cost just as much as the GT R.

Although the GT R has more power than the 911 4 GTS, their 0-100kph acceleration time is identical at 3.6sec. Their top speeds are quite similar: 318kph for the former and 310kph for the latter.
