MEP asked to leave EU Parliament on his first day after wearing 'f**k fascism' shirt

Newly elected Green MEP Magid Magid has made waves on his first day at the European Parliament  - claiming that he was asked to leave.

The 30-year-old former Lord Mayor of Sheffield turned up to mark the opening day of the new legislature in Strasbourg in his own style and it appears to have ruffled some feathers.

Perhaps it was his baseball cap and shorts.

Maybe it was his a t-shirt with the slogan "f**k fascism" written on it.

Mr Magid has his own theory, suggesting that it was his race that saw him asked to leave the assembly he's just been elected to.

In a tweet he said: '"I know I'm visibly different.

"I don't have the privilege to hide my identity.

"I'm BLACK & my name is Magid. I don't intend to try fit in. Get used to it!"

Flooded with supportive messages on Twitter , Mr Magid replied: "Thanks for the love & support guys.

"Just to clarity, I obviously didn't leave.

"But to even be put in this position says a lot about what people think the stereotypical politician is meant to look like."

Mr Magid was attending the opening of the new five-year session of the parliament.

But the UK's MEPs will only sit until the country leaves the EU.

Mr Magid, known as Magic Magid, moved to Sheffield aged five from an Ethiopian refugee camp.

In 2016 he was elected a Green Councillor in the city, and became the youngest Lord Mayor in 2018.
