Mentally-ill Broadmoor patient attacked three men before biting policeman

A hospital order looks likely for a man who carried out random attacks on the public and police.

Police were called in after a report of a man assaulting people and claimed he had left someone dead in a flat in Knowle.

Bristol Crown Court heard Paul Holder had attacked three men before biting a police officer.

Holder, 39, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm as well as three assaults and assaulting a police officer.

Judge Martin Picton was considering the imposition of a hospital order, after receiving medical reports on Holder's mental health.

But the hearing was timed out and the judge said it could not be concluded in Holder's absence.

The hearing was therefore adjourned for 24 hours.

Alistair Haggerty, prosecuting, said Holder assaulted James Fairman, Duncan O'Neill and Frazer Pumford.

When police arrived at the scene he bit down hard on PC Boodney's left bicep, causing a puncture wound.

A doctor told the judge Holder was suffering from a delusional disorder which required long-term medical intervention in hospital.
