Mendy, Kante - Chelsea team news and injury updates ahead of Man City Champions League final

Chelsea are preparing to face off with Manchester City on Saturday night in the Champions League final.

The Blues are eyeing their second Champions League title having navigated their way past Real Madrid in the semi-final, but to come out on top in Porto, Thomas Tuchel's men will have to defeat the Premier League champions and deny them their first ever Champions League crown.

Chelsea have already beaten City in the FA Cup semi-final and the Premier League this season, but this could be a very different game with such a huge prize on the line.

Nevertheless, the Blues will be desperate to get the job done, and they will be aided in their bid by two significant injury boosts ahead of the final.

Here is the latest on the injury front.

N'Golo Kante

Kante missed the defeat to Villa with a hamstring issue that has been ongoing for some time.

But Tuchel has since confirmed that Kante will be fit for the Champions League final. He said: "With N'Golo nothing has changed. I think about changing my tactics now and stop asking about N'Golo.

"I'll just put him on the pitch in Wednesday training and don't ask anymore. If there are any problems we will just put him in training and put him on the pitch when the game starts on Saturday."

Kante did indeed train on Wednesday in what is a big boost for the Blues.

Edouard Mendy

Another concern was goalkeeper Mendy, who suffered a rib injury during Chelsea's defeat to Villa, but the stopper does look set to make it back for the final this weekend, and like Kante, he did return to training on Wednesday.

"He has made a huge improvement in his management of pain and so we need further updates on Wednesday," Tuchel said earlier this week.

"We hope to have him back then."

The signs appeared to be good from Wednesday's session, but Chelsea fans will be keen for another update from their boss ahead of the trip to Porto.
