Men wearing balaclavas point gun at victim before stealing expensive tools from van

Masked men brandishing a gun told a van owner to "back away" as they broke into his vehicle and stole expensive tools.

Nottinghamshire Police were called to Charnwood Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, at around 8.35pm on Wednesday after reports that a group of men wearing balaclavas had been seen breaking into a van.

The van’s owner confronted the men and they pointed what is thought to be a gun at the man before telling him to “back away”.

The group then stole the tools from the van.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses and information.

Detective Sergeant Matt Scott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Anyone who saw anything is encouraged to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“The robbery could potentially have a detrimental impact on the victim’s livelihood and while we are exploring a number of lines of enquiry, you might hold a piece of information that could help catch those responsible for this incident.

“If you have any information that could aid our officers, please get in touch via 101 and quote incident number 853 of 11 December 2019.

“Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
