Men wearing balaclavas and carrying an axe rob Premier Stores in Pontllanfraith

Men wearing balaclavas and armed with an axe threatened a shopkeeper in a robbery near Blackwood.

The incident took place at a Premier Stores in Fleur-de-Lys Avenue, in Pontllanfraith at around 8.35pm on Tuesday.

The two men entered the store with one of them carrying an axe with a red handle.

They threatened the person behind the counter with the weapon before making off with a quantity of cash in the direction of Hill View.

The suspect who was carrying the axe was described as being of slim build while both men were described as having “local accents”.

A spokesman for Gwent Police said: “We are appealing for any witnesses or any individuals who may have CCTV footage, dashcams from vehicles parked on the street or information about this incident.
