Two men have been charged over the massive Carwoola bushfires in southern New South Wales earlier this year.
The fire started on a property in the Carwoola area, near Queanbeyan, on Friday February 17.
Strong winds of 56 kilometres per hour and hot weather saw the fire destroy eight homes and burn out 3,500 hectares of grassland.
Several sheds, 25 vehicles and countless livestock were also destroyed by the blaze.
A strike force was established by the Monaro Local Area Police Command to investigate the fire, and today two men were issued with court attendance notices.
The 20-year-old and 39-year-old will face court next month charged with failing to comply with a total fire ban and causing or setting fire to the property of another person.
In New South Wales there is a penalty of up to $5,500 or 12 months' jail time for lighting a fire during a total fire ban in NSW and having the matter go to court.
But that penalty increases to a maximum of $132,000 or a 14-year jail term for fires that damage life, property or the environment.
Two firefighters were injured fighting the blaze, one suffering burns, while the other sustained a crush injury while vehicles were being moved.
One senior firefighter lost his own home while defending others.
At the time, the NSW Rural Fire Service said the damage could have been much worse, with firefighters managing to save 56 homes.
