Men threaten woman with firearm during Belfast burglary

A group of men threatened a woman with a firearm during a burglary in South Belfast in the early hours of the morning.

Police have launched an investigation after three men entered a property on Surrey Street, off the Lisburn Road, at around 1.30am on Wednesday, December 22.

It is reported that a firearm was produced during the incident and the men demanded money from the victim.

The suspects took two mobile phones and a substantial amount of money. Two of them have been described as black and the third white.

South Belfast SDLP councillor Gary McKeown has condemned an aggravated burglary just off the Lisburn Road.

Cllr McKeown said: "Reports that a firearm was produced during this burglary will cause great concern in the local community. As people prepare for Christmas, the idea that an incident like this could take place in the dark of night is very worrying.

"Burglary is all too common, particularly at this time of year, but the aggravating addition of a firearm in this incident makes it all the worse.

"My thoughts are with the woman who was at the receiving end of this ordeal.

"I would ask anyone who noticed anything in the Surrey Street area to contact the police."

Police are asking anyone with any information regarding the incident to contact them on non-emergency number 101.

Detective Sergeant O’Flaherty said: “It was reported at 1.30am that three men entered the property. The victim reported that a firearm was produced and the suspects demanded money from her.

“The suspects took two mobile phones and a substantial sum of money. Two of the suspects are described as black and one is white.

"Our enquiries are continuing and we are appealing for anyone who was in the area to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 110 22/12/21.”
