Men spotted 'with knives' in park as four arrested

Police were called to a park after a group of men were seen with knives.

A number of police vehicles and an ambulance were seen parked on Boundary Road in St Helens on Tuesday evening following reports of a group with knives in Queen's Park. A number of Matrix vans, patrol cars, dog units and undercover cars were seen surrounding the park just after 6pm.

Officers were seen searching Queen's Park and front gardens in the area. Police later said they were called by a concerned member of the public after "disorder" in the area.

Merseyside Police confirmed four men have been arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon. Nobody is believed to be injured.

The St Helens Police Facebook page said: "Officers from Team 3, Targeted and Response and Resolution this afternoon arrested four adult males on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon. The arrests were made after reports of disorder in the area of Cambridge Road and Queens Park.

"All four males are currently in custody awaiting interview."

A parent who's child attends Queen's Park Primary School on the nearby Rivington Road, shared a message sent to parents on Tuesday, evening, following the incident.

The message read: "The school have been contacted by a member of the public to say that there are youths on Queen's Park who are carrying knives. The police have been informed and are currently present at the park, dealing with the situation.

"Please be vigilant when you are collecting your children from school. It goes without saying, our children's safety is paramount.

"The police may have dealt with this issue by home time but just wanted to keep you all posted."
