Men snort white powder from policeman's hat during Liverpool title celebrations

A video has emerged of two men appearing to snort white powder from a policeman's helmet during celebrations on Merseyside following Liverpool's title triumph.

There were scenes of chaos on Friday night as fans packed into the streets to rejoice over a first top-flight crown for the Reds for 30 years.

Merseyside Police confirmed on Sunday that a 19-year-old man had been charged with criminal damage after a firework struck the Liver building.

And now footage has emerged of a group of grinning males showing off a policeman's hat with white powder on top of it.

The clip, which was posted on Twitter, shows two of the group appearing to snort from the hat.

There was disorder at the Pier Head area of the city on Friday evening, including minor skirmishes between police and revellers.

It came 24 hours after Manchester City's defeat at Chelsea confirmed a first Premier League title for Liverpool.

The club released a statement, in conjunction with Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council, condemning the 'wholly unacceptable' actions of some of their supporters.

It said: "Throughout the last week, Liverpool Football Club, Merseyside Police, Liverpool City Council and Spirit of Shankly have worked together to consistently remind people that the region is still disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and ask people to celebrate LFC’s Premier League title win safely.

"Several thousand people turned up at the Pier Head on Friday June 26 and some chose to ignore the social distancing guidance and risk public safety.

"Our city is still in a public health crisis and this behaviour is wholly unacceptable.

"The potential danger of a second peak of COVID-19 still exists and we need to work together to make sure we don’t undo everything that has been achieved as a region during lockdown.

"When it is safe to do so, we will all work together to arrange a victory parade when everyone can come together to celebrate.

"Until that time, the safety of our city and our people continues to be our number one priority."
