Men’s college golf team of the week: Indiana

In their first event in almost a year due to the pandemic, Indiana men’s golf began the season with a win, claiming the Big Ten Match Play Championship title for the first time since the event debuted in 2009.

The Hoosiers went a perfect 4-0 at Hammock Beach Resort’s Ocean Course in Palm Coast, Florida, last weekend, defeating Ohio State, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa en route to the title. Junior Harry Reynolds was undefeated over the weekend at 4-0, as were senior Ethan Shepherd (3-0-1) and junior Mitch Davis (2-0-2).

“Once again, a total team effort today. We fought hard and Wisconsin gave us a good match to start the day. Iowa had us down early but we fought back, and we fought back hard,” said head coach Mike Mayer.

“This is a testament to all the work we’ve done and we know we have a lot of hard work left. It’s great to get back to college golf. All of those guys were in it, focused and it was a total team performance.”
