Men raid home of Liverpool DJ while wife is upstairs alone

Video footage has been released after three men broke into the home of Liverpool DJ Lee Butler while his wife was upstairs alone.

The incident happened around 7.45pm on Wednesday evening at the DJ's home in the West Derby area.

Mr Butler has now shared CCTV of the incident with the ECHO to help try and identify the culprits.

Mr Butler told the ECHO that his wife Dionne Butler was at home alone when the break-in happened.

He said: "They arrived in a VW and parked up outside. They came in through a side door and had a root around the kitchen. My wife was upstairs on her own.

"We think my wife's phone's disturbed them and they made off. They stole some jewellery and sunglasses.

"Yes it's horrible for us now that strangers have been in our family home. My wife is a bit shaken but ok.

"Watching the CCTV back was a bit troubling but we hope the footage will now help police."

Mr Butler, a veteran Liverpool DJ who played at famous Liverpool nightclubs The State and 051 during the 1990s, told the ECHO that he had reported the crime to police.

The CCTV footage shows a white car pulling up outside the house, and two men getting out and walking down the drive. A third man then gets out of the car and follows the two men into the house.

The three men wore dark coloured casual clothing and concealed their faces with Covid masks. One of the men appeared to look downward to hide his face from CCTV.

Mr Butler posted some of the footage on social media earlier this week, when he appealed for anyone with information about the crime to get in touch with him.

Police confirmed they were investigating a burglary in West Derby which is thought to have happened at around 7.45pm on May 19.

Police said sunglasses and watches were stolen, and that the offenders were seen in a white car which may have been a VW.

A spokesman said: "Forensic, witness and CCTV enquiries are ongoing.

"If you have any information, witnessed the incident or captured anyone acting suspiciously in the area on CCTV, dashcam or doorbell devices, contact us now with reference 21000323037.

"Always call 999 if a burglary is in progress. You can also pass information to the social media desk @MerPolCC on Twitter, 'Merseyside Police Contact Centre' on Facebook, call 101 or the independent charity @CrimestoppersUK anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
