Meet-cutes at Home Depot might seem like an unconventional way to start a relationship, but for some determined men, it’s the perfect way to get the girl. However, TikToker Jenny Beristain (@jenny.bear22) doesn’t agree.
In a viral TikTok, which has amassed 6,434 views, she began by asking: “Why does it feel like going to war every time I step inside a Home Depot?”
She then went on to describe how when she visits the home store, it feels like men “go out of their way” to make women feel uncomfortable.
What’s up with men harassing women at Home Depot?
In a recent trip, when she went into the store, she felt eyes “from every angle” staring at her. As she walked down the aisle, she said she noticed men shouting out compliments and making kissy noises at her.
Still, she needed assistance, so she asked a man for help finding a vacuum cleaner. After he does this, he compliments her and asks for her number.
“I already didn’t invite or make it seem like I appreciated your comments to begin with, what makes you think I want to give you my number?” she asks, frustratedly.
She told him he had a boyfriend, but even then, he didn’t get the message: he asked her if they could still be friends.
“So the fact that guys can’t even respect that a woman has a boyfriend, and instead wants to go and say ‘Oh but we can’t be friends?’” Beristain added, “You wouldn’t want your girl to be doing that. Period.”
As she goes down another aisle, the TikToker notes that she still feels the man watching her. He hovers behind her, and while she tries to search for an item, he starts rummaging through stock in the same area.
“I literally feel like I have to walk in and prepare for [expletive] war and not blow up on a single [expletive] man,” she said. “Y’all just need to do better, respectfully.”
Beristain didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via TikTok comment and email.

In the comments, one user shared, “I work at AutoZone so I’ve seen and experienced all kinds of bull. Men think they’re slick and they really have a chance. They need to learn to take a ‘no’ and move on.”
“Omg they’re always so confused why a woman is in the store,” another said. I’m like: ‘Mind your business.'”
Replying to this comment, Beristain added, “Literally mind your business. Like our presence in there doesn’t invite you to HIT ON US.”
While a third opined, “At one point it’s harassment. Its way different if a man comes up to you and says ‘Hey my name is blah blah blah, you caught my eye and I would love to get your number,’ and if she says yes cool good for you dude, BUT if she says no than just polite say your goodbye and move along, but men will stare, follow, HARASS, and overdo it… Like, get it together, fellas. Respectfully….”
More Home Depot complaints
Over on the r/HomeDepot subreddit, it’s clear that this problem is more widespread than it seems, with multiple workers taking to the platform to express their annoyance at men trying to flirt with them.
“Men who are customers of Home Depot, this is not a dating site, nor is it the streets for you to feed on young women and catcall and harass them or give creep vibes and looks when you see a ‘pretty’ girl,” one Redditor wrote, adding that they get harassed “every single day.” Meanwhile, a second worker says that it happens to them “at least three times a day.”
“It’s frankly degrading and I don’t like it,” they wrote.
