Men on motorbike 'smash window' and set car 'alight' in front of shoppers

A car was reportedly been 'set alight' in a Liverpool car park this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Broad Lane, in Norris Green, to reports of a car on fire at around 12.17pm on Thursday, September 2.

Once at the scene, fire fighters found a car engulfed in flames in the car park close to shops including Iceland.

Crews from one fire engine tackled the blaze and were able to extinguish the fire.

Fire crews then handed the incident over to Merseyside Police.

A witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the ECHO they saw men riding a motorbike pouring petrol inside the car and setting it alight.

They said: "Some guys were on a motorbike smashed the windows and put petrol inside it and set it alight."

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told the ECHO: "Firefighters were called to Broad Lane, Norris Green, on Thursday 2nd September, following reports of a car on fire.

"Crews were alerted at 12.17pm and on scene at 12.23pm. One fire engine attended.

"On arrival crews found a car fully involved in fire in the car park of the market.

"Crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

"Fire crews handed the incident over to Merseyside Police and left the scene at 1.04pm."
