Men breach lockdown to go to Anglesey to buy a car... but crash on the way there

Five men who breached lockdown by travelling more than 100 miles to Wales to buy a car ended up crashing.

North Wales Police were called to reports of a collision on the A5, in the Mona area of Anglesey, on Tuesday afternoon.

When they arrived to the scene at around 4pm they discovered the occupants of the car had travelled from Greater Manchester.

They said they were making their way to Anglesey to purchase a car.

North Wales Police said the five men have been reported for breaching Covid-19 restrictions.

A statement on Facebook said: "Llangefni officers responded to a single vehicle, damage only road traffic collision this afternoon near #Mona.

"Occupants of the vehicle and a convoy vehicle had travelled from Greater Manchester to Anglesey to purchase a car.

"Five males have been reported to court for breaching Covid-19 regulations."

The government's lockdown measures mean people are only allowed to leave home and travel for specific reasons.

These include exercising, picking up essential food items and medicine.

Key workers and those who cannot work from home are also allowed to travel.

Anyone who does not follow the guidelines can face fines and arrest.
