Four men have been charged two months after a sleeping truckie was dragged from his vehicle, bashed and shot on the side of a major highway west of Sydney.
The men - aged 23, 28, 29 and 30 - were arrested in dawn raids on Thursday at a Luddenham property, five homes across Sydney's southwest and a home in Wollongong.
The truck driver was shot on the Great Western Highway at Mount Lambie, near Lithgow, about 5am on September 29.
Police say the West Australian man was asleep when a group of unknown men broke into the truck's cabin.
The 42-year-old was dragged from the cabin, assaulted and shot twice - in his right upper thigh and right foot.
The men allegedly stole the driver's belongings, including a large quantity of cash.
The truck driver was flown to Westmead Hospital, where he underwent surgery and has since been released.
The four men were charged on Thursday with a number of serious kidnap, robbery, firearm, gang and assault offences.
The three Sydney-based men were refused bail at Campbelltown Local Court to return to court on December 9, while the Wollongong-based man was refused bail and was to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Thursday.
