Two "intimidating" men armed with a sledge hammer and a crowbar attempted to rip an ATM from a wall with a car in a terrifying supermarket raid.
Cheshire Police said the attempted robbery took place at a shop on Hope Farm Road, in Ellesmere Port , on Friday, at about 10pm.
The force said two unknown men entered a Co-op store and threatened the staff working inside with weapons.
The men then attempted to steal from the ATM machine by tying it to a waiting vehicle.
However their attempt failed and the men fled the scene.
Detective Constable Phill Hunt, of Ellesmere Port Local Policing Unit , said: “As part of our investigation we’re following a number of lines of enquiry to locate the men involved.
“These men undoubtedly intimidated and scared staff while brandishing a weapon and we’re really keen to find them. I want to encourage the public to come forward if they have information – no matter how small.
“Also, if you have any dash cam footage around this time and in this area or if you saw suspicious activity then I want to hear from you.”
