Men armed with 'axes' rob staff at social club

Men armed with "axes" robbed staff at a social club in Liverpool.

Police say two robbers with weapons went into the Woolton Conservative Club, on Belle Vale Road, Gateacre, at around 11.20pm on Sunday, July 31. According to staff, the suspects allegedly held "axes" up to the general manager to threaten him.

They managed to steal money, three bottles of alcohol and a set of car keys, before driving off from the scene in the stolen car, a black Dacia Stepway. Police are now appealing for information following the robbery.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and enquiries are ongoing, including examining CCTV footage. No one was injured during the incident.

Detective Inspector Chris Saidi said: "This was a very distressing incident for the people who were working that night to experience. I urge anyone who was in the vicinity of the club on Belle Vale Road who may have noticed something suspicious on Sunday at around 11pm onwards to please contact us so we can bring the offenders to justice.

"I am also appealing for drivers and residents with CCTV and dashcam to please check your footage which may have captured the two suspects in the area. Business burglaries are not a victimless crime as they have a huge impact on the community in many ways. We are determined to find the offender so that other businesses are not targeted in future.

"Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook with reference 22000553944.
