Memphis Grizzlies not yet engaging in buyout talks for Andre Iguodala

While the Los Angeles Lakers had the fortune of a welcoming and accommodating Memphis Grizzlies team when the time game for Dwight Howard to join the Lakers, they are finding it considerably more difficult to get the Grizzlies to be similarly accommodating when it comes forward Andre Iguodala.

The Grizzlies, who received a first round pick for Iguodala as the Golden State Warriors needed to clear cap space in order to sign D’Angelo Russell, are not yet ready to engage Iguodala on a buyout, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

The Grizzlies evidently believe that they can get some sort of asset in return of Iguodala instead of negotiating a buyout and getting a couple of million dollars back or less. However, it’s not completely illogical to assume that another contender would convince themselves to give up some sort of future draft pick or prospect to add someone with the playoff resume of Iguodala.

Perhaps not coincidentally, the Lakers also applied for a disabled player exception after the DeMarcus Cousins worth $1.75 million on Monday. Iguodala is also a former client of Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka.
