Memphis Depay 'drops transfer hint' - Liverpool fans react as you'd expect

Memphis Depay is reportedly a Liverpool transfer target, but it seems fans of the Anfield club aren't convinced they'll sign him.

The former Manchester United forward has come on leaps and bounds since leaving Old Trafford to reignite his career in Ligue 1 with Lyon.

Depay has found the back of the net 39 times for the French club since January 2017, and has assisted his team-mates a whopping 41 times to boot.

Liverpool are set to part company with Daniel Sturridge in the next few months, and have been linked with a number of new strikers including Timo Werner.

Depay's name has recently been mentioned, and it seems Liverpool fans on social media are excited by the idea of signing the Holland international.

That was until Sunday afternoon however, when the former Red Devils star apparently responded to reports by dropping a transfer hint.

Taking to Twitter , Depay uploaded a picture of himself wearing the blue Manchester United away shirt from the 1992/93 season with Eric Cantona's name and number seven on the back.

Alongside the picture, the Dutchman wrote: "Happy belated birthday to Man United legend King Eric!"

The post wasn't missed by Liverpool fans, who immediately took to commenting the transfer appears dead in the water.

"Aight so you ain't coming to Liverpool (sic)," tweeted one supporter, while another added: "Wow this is a no to coming to Liverpool then."

A third wrote: "Definitely not coming to Liverpool. Still loves United," and a fourth concluded: "Well I think that shows hes not heading to Liverpool."
