Memorial site for four teens killed in stolen car crash vandalised

The memorial site was vandalised and a baseball bat left at the scene.

A roadside memorial to four teenagers who died in a car crash last week has been vandalised.

Three girls and a boy, aged between 13 and 17, died in a stolen car which was allegedly being driven by a 14-year-old boy early on Sunday, June 7.

A week later, the memorial site at the corner of Duckworth Street and Bayswater Road in the Townsville suburb of Garbutt, had been vandalised with vases broken, floral tributes strewn around and a baseball bat left at the site.

The memorial site has since been tidied up but police are appealing for information about the damage.

Investigations into the crash are also ongoing.

The Queensland Police Service said the investigation included speaking with witnesses and reviewing camera footage.

The 14-year-old boy appeared in the Children's Court in Townsville last Monday charged with dangerous driving causing death, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglary, as well as a count of possessing dangerous drugs.

He was remanded in custody.
