SAGA -- A mural of judo legend and Olympic hero Toshihiko Koga was completed Friday, adorning the wall of a department store in Saga City.
Koga, who died this past March, was a Saga Prefecture native who won the gold at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
The Saga Tamaya department store is now the home of the 12-meter-long and 7-meter-wide mural which features a silhouette of him performing a shoulder throw -- his favorite maneuver -- and his face after his Olympic triumph. The mural was created by Over Alls Co., a Tokyo-based company that produces murals nationwide.
The department store faces the route for the torch relay in which Koga was scheduled to take part. The sacred flame is scheduled to make its way past the mural on May 10, the day Koga would have run.
