Memorial Day weekend came and went without a major NFL news dump

This past weekend, many Americans were out celebrating Memorial Day. They were driving or flying to a destination. They were grilling with friends. They were hanging out at the beach or on a boat. They weren’t paying attention to the news — or at least hopefully they had something better to do. It’s the perfect time for a news dump. Usually, the NFL takes advantage of this situation. This year, there was no holiday news dump.

Sure, Ben Watson was suspended for four games for use of a PED, but there wasn’t much else out there when it comes to the NFL and that’s a good thing. There was no major lawsuit filed by a former star against the league. There was no talk about anthem protests. There weren’t any arguments between powerful owners. It was silence and for the NFL and Roger Goodell, this silence was golden.

Trust me. If there was some bad news, the NFL would have dropped it now. It’s a dead time for the league. There are NBA and NHL playoffs. Major League Baseball is kind of rounding into form. The long weekend was perfect to drop a suspension on a big-name player. The three day vacation time for many Americans is exactly when it’s time to drop some bad news. There was none and that’s a good thing.

Of course, if there was good news, the NFL should have come out with today, and that didn’t happen either. In this case though, no news is good news.
