Members of the public asked to attend funeral of D-Day veteran who has no close family left

Members of the public are being asked to attend the funeral of a World War Two veteran who has no close living family left.

Earnest Townson, who served as a paratrooper, died on October 15 this year at the age of 99.

The Royal British Legion are asking people to turn up to his funeral in Blackburn to give him the 'send off he deserves'.

The D-Day hero served as a L/SGT with the 1st Border 8th parachute regiment, LancsLive reports.

His funeral is taking place tomorrow, (Friday 25) from 3pm at Pleasington Crematorium in  Blackburn .

A spokesman for the Royal British Legion in Greater Manchester and Lancashire said: "Earnest Townson, D-Day veteran and ex-Para has died and has no close family to attend his funeral.

"Let's give him the honoured send off that he deserves."

Pleasington Crem Blackburn is on Tower Road, Blackburn, BB2 5LE.
