A member of the Ugandan Olympic team tested positive for the novel coronavirus upon arriving in Japan, according to the Cabinet Secretariat.

The Ugandan team landed at Narita Airport on Saturday evening for a pre-Olympic training camp in Izumisano, Osaka Prefecture. Upon entering Japan, one member tested positive in a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.

The remaining eight members tested negative and departed for Izumisano by bus.

According to the city, the team consists of nine members, including coaches and athletes in boxing, swimming and weightlifting.

This is the second case since March last year, when the Tokyo Games were postponed, that a foreign team has entered Japan for a training camp. The Australian women's softball team is currently in Ota, Gunma Prefecture.
