A member of staff at Holy Cross High has tested positive for Covid-19.
The person is self-isolating at home and Hamilton school remains open.
NHS Lanarkshire says the risk to the wider school community remains low.
In a letter to parents today (Tuesday, September 8), consultant in public health Ashley Goodfellow said: “NHS Lanarkshire’s test and protect team has carried out contact tracing after a staff member at Holy Cross High School in Hamilton tested positive for Covid-19.
“The staff member and related contacts are currently self-isolating at home.
“The risk to the wider school community is low and the school will remain open as normal.
“It is important to bear in mind that mixing socially in the community without maintaining physical distancing measures helps the virus to spread widely. It is therefore important that people remain vigilant and follow physical distancing guidance.
“We are aware that there will be concern for children and young people, their parents and staff at this time, however I want to reassure you that South Lanarkshire Council and NHS Lanarkshire has carried out a full risk assessment and the school continues to complete enhanced cleaning of the Holy Cross High School building.
“We want to take this opportunity to remind people that good hand hygiene is essential to combat transmission of the virus and pupils and staff should wash their hands thoroughly and regularly using soap and water for 20 seconds.
“Individuals or their close contacts who experience any Covid-19 symptoms such as a cough, fever or loss of taste or smell, even if they are mild, should stay off school or work and get tested.”
