Melvin Gordon’s fantasy football value skyrockets after Phillip Lindsay injury

Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay has turf toe, an injury that could sideline him for several weeks.

Before his injury, Lindsay was splitting backfield reps with fellow Broncos running back Melvin Gordon, who joined the team this offseason. With Lindsay now sidelined, Gordon’s fantasy football stock is rising.

Gordon was already owned in 97% of ESPN fantasy leagues before Lindsay’s injury and he’s now poised to serve as Denver’s workhorse running back. Royce Freeman will steal some touches from Gordon but not as many as Lindsay.

Gordon has a tough matchup this week going up against a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that held New York Giants star Saquon Barkley to just six rushing yards in Week 1. Despite the tough matchup, Gordon might still be worth a flex start because he’s the Broncos’ primary goal-line running back.

After this week, Gordon will be a must-start against the Tampa Buccaneers in Week 3. Alvin Kamara scored twice against the Bucs in Week 1 and Gordon will be poised to have a heavy workload if Lindsay is still sidelined.

Gordon is an iffy start this week but will have great value going forward.
