Melvin Gordon on Todd Gurley: The media is ‘blowing that story out of proportion’

Ever since the season ended, there’s been seemingly endless speculation about Todd Gurley and his knee. There’s been various conflicting media reports, and a lot of whispers that the Los Angeles Rams running back isn’t healthy.

Gurley broke his media silence after practice on Tuesday, and downplayed his knee issues. Now, his friend and fellow NFL running back Melvin Gordon is backing him up publicly. During a recent interview with NFL Network, Gordon also downplayed the controversy surrounding Gurley’s health.

As soon as Andrew Siciliano asked about Gurley, Gordon started smiling widely. “Man, I talked to Todd. Todd’s good, man. Ya’ll blowing that story out of proportion, Todd’s good man. Y’all could line up with Todd right now, he’d beat anybody in a race,” he declared.

Gordon and Gurley are close friends, so if anyone would know, it’d be him. Gordon emphasized that Gurley is going to be his normal self in 2019, saying “the dude’s gonna be good, I don’t know why people downplaying the man.”

It’s the latest confirmation that Gurley’s knee issues might not be as worrisome as people initially thought. First there was the report that Gurley might have arthritis in his knee. Then the Rams drafted Darrell Henderson in the third round, which raised plenty of eyebrows.

But it’s looking increasingly likely that things were never that dire, and that Gurley will be more or less fine moving forward. The Rams might be looking to reduce his workload, but that’s nothing out of the ordinary for a running back in this day and age. Gurley has been insisting he’ll be good, and Gordon clearly has his back.
