Melissa Etheridge claims Brad Pitt was nearly asked to be the sperm donor for her two children

American rock singer, Melissa Etheridge, has said she and former partner Julie Cypher nearly approached Brad Pitt to be the sperm donor for their two children in the late nineties.

In an interview on Australia’s Studio 10 talk show, the 54-year-old singer and activist recounted the process of choosing a prospective father.

“Well, actually, [Brad Pitt] was such a good friend of mine. And we did consider it. And yet, I looked and I saw how badly he wanted children and I thought, ‘I don’t want to share this with someone who really, badly wants children because my children don’t need another parent — they have two,’” Etheridge said.

“Of course, my teenagers now are like, ‘I could have had Brad Pitt [as my dad]!’ My son said, ‘I could’ve been amazingly handsome!’” the multi-award winning singer continued.

Etheridge then went on to explain why she chose David Crosby, from Crosby, Stills & Nash, to be the father.

“It’s one of the reasons why David Crosby and his wife are so perfect — because they’ve had children. They were looking to do this as a gift … And my children are lovely and gorgeous anyway.”

After a great deal of speculation about the biological father of the children, Rolling Stone revealed their father was David Crosby in 2010. Etheridge gave birth to daughter Bailey in 1977 and her son Beckett in 1998.

Etheridge has won the Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance two times in her career, in 1992 and 1994, and is also known for both her gay rights activism and her environmental campaigning.

Brad Pitt did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
