A group of people in Melbourne's western suburbs have made and given away almost 150,000 masks during the coronavirus pandemic.

Vivienne Nguyen, the chair of the Victorian Multicultural Commission, praised the work of St Albans woman Phượng Huỳnh and her friends.

"I myself got 3,000 [masks] for the Hume council during lockdown last year," Ms Nguyen said.

Ms Huỳnh's work has also been recognised as part of an ABC "pay it forward" campaign.

When Victoria entered its "circuit breaker" lockdown on Saturday, ABC Radio Melbourne wanted to find a way to bring the community together.

Listeners were asked to nominate someone who had gone above and beyond to help others during COVID-19.

Ms Huỳnh was grateful to be nominated but stressed that she did not make the masks alone.

"My friends help me," she said.

Premier Daniel Andrews says there are 'promising early signs' the lockdown will end after five days.

Victorians are hoping the lockdown restrictions will be lifted on Wednesday.

Today Premier Daniel Andrews said the state was "well placed" to be able to make changes later this week.

"We will get these rules off as quickly as we possibly can," he said.
