Melbourne Storm's Josh Addo-Carr pleads guilty to firearms charge after lockdown camping

Melbourne Storm winger Josh Addo-Carr has pleaded guilty to a firearms charge stemming from an April camping trip to the Mid North Coast of NSW when coronavirus travel bans were in place.

He is due to sentenced in October on the charge of using an unauthorised firearm.

Addo-Carr was one of a group of men who visited South Sydney player and co-accused Latrell Mitchell's property at Caffreys Flat, north-west of Taree, in late April.

Mitchell last month pleaded guilty to a charge of giving a firearm to a person not authorised by a licence or permit, and is due to be sentenced in November.

Photos and videos of the weekend trip were posted to social media on April 26 and police began investigating.

In the photos and videos, the group can be seen huddled around a campfire and riding motorbikes.

In one of the videos, Addo-Carr is depicted shooting a shotgun.

He is "not currently the holder of a NSW firearms licence and is not generally permitted to possess or use a firearm," according to police facts.

The facts presented to the court state the incident occurred around a house on the property "burnt to the point of being destroyed" in a bushfire last year.

The document said when police attended the property they found 26 spent shotgun shells "next to a garbage bin, inside the bin, and on the ground adjacent to the destroyed house, and as consistent with the clearly visible position of the accused when firing the shotgun in the offending video".

"Also observed by police were the remains of numerous empty beer / vodka pre-mix glass bottles in positions again consistent with those depicted as targets in the offending video."
