In a crime that’s so 2025-core, a man has been taken into custody after 43 Labubus were found during a police search in Melbourne.
On Tuesday, Victoria police executed a search warrant at a Web Road property where they allegedly located the highly sought-after plushies, including several limited edition ones that are estimated $500 each.
The dolls altogether had an estimated value of $9,000.
Police allege the dolls were stolen during four separate robberies at a shopping centre in Melbourne’s CBD since July of this year.
As a result of the police’s discovery, a 40-year-old man was arrested and charged with four counts of burglary and two counts of theft.
He was bailed and is expected to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on May 5, 2026.

For those who’ve yet to feast their eyes on these little monsters, the Labubu is an adorable creature from Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung‘s The Monsters series.
Plushies inspired by Lung’s original character were first released in 2019 by Pop Mart and have since surged in popularity, with many flagship stores opening up across the globe to fans waiting to get their hands on the adorable creature.
It’s even got to a point where Aussies were taking out insurance on their Labubus with trinket theft on the rise.
While these trends come and go, it appears that Labubus still have a gorilla grip choke-hold on society. Especially if someone is out there allegedly stealing $9K worth of these little bastards.
