The rain that has lashed much of Victoria is set to continue, prompting flood and water quality warnings for rivers and beaches.
The rain is expected to ease by mid-morning on Saturday, but many areas will still experience showers, and thunderstorms are predicted for the east of the state.
Victoria's Environment Protection Authority is warning people to avoid contact with the water at 36 beaches around Port Phillip Bay, including St Kilda and Brighton beaches, saying the water is likely to be contaminated.
The EPA says people should also avoid the Yarra River at Warrandyte, Kew, Healesville and Launching Place.
Parts of Victoria had a month of rain in less than a day on Friday, in the wettest day for a year.
More than 600 people called the State Emergency Service for help, and two people were rescued from vehicles caught in flash floods.
Flood watches were issued on Friday for the north central catchments, from the Avoca River to Broken River.
