Melanie Sykes floors fans with throwback photo of her 'handsome' dad

Melanie Sykes has stunned fans as she posted a glowing tribute to her dad along with a throwback photo.

The former face of the Boddingtons bitter TV ads floored her Instagram followers with a rare look at her father Robert.

Ex Big Breakfast star Melanie, from Mossley, shared a picture of her dad looking 'cool' in a checked sweater vest to mark Father's Day.

Fans were floored by the black and white picture and commented how handsome he is.

And Mel told how proud she is of her 'salt of the earth' dad.

"Happy Father’s Day to my dad Robert Sykes who is one of life’s grounded, decent, hard working, talented people," she wrote movingly.

"Thank you for teaching me to work hard, to not take things for granted, for having the patience to teach me to read music and appreciate its wonders, for teaching me to respect my elders, for teaching me to always demonstrate good manners and for you dear dad, for being the salt of the earth! I love you with all my heart.

"My roots are yours and for that, I am proud."

"Handsome Dad!! said one.

"Daddy cool!" exclaimed another follower.

"Apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree," said another Instagram user.

"Your double," said another with a shocked face emoji.

Last year spoke about the shortfallings of British men in a no holds barred interview with Frank magazine to mark her landmark birthday.

She went on to say some British men are like the smutty TV character Keith Lemon, played by Leigh Francis.

She said: "I feel a bit sorry for British men who have adopted the limited vocabulary of the television character, Keith Lemon, when talking about, and to women."

Mel, who has two teenage sons Roman and Valentino, said she hopes her boys will turn into 'decent men'.

The TV and radio presenter shot to fame as the face of the Boddingtons adverts in the 90s when it was then known as the 'Cream of Manchester.'

Model Melanie famously popped her head out of an ice cream van in one of the ads with a pint of bitter instead of a cone to say “do you want a flake in that love?”

She was also known for asking Tarquil "are your trollies on't right way round?"
