Melanie Sykes claims Keith Lemon made her cry after three hours of sexual jokes

Melanie Sykes claims TV host Keith Lemon made her cry after she was made the subject of three hours of offensive jokes.

The TV and radio presenter from Mossley says she cried all night after Leigh Francis, in character as crude Keith, 'used' her to entertain the audience on the ITV gameshow Through The Keyhole.

Mel says she was left devastated by her guest appearance on the show with Keith, who also hosts the ITV2 gameshow Celebrity Juice, reports the Mirror.

And she says she's still affected by it today.

The former Boddingtons beer ad star says she rang her agent and complained to producers about her experience in 2018 and she gave her approval to the final cut that went out on TV.

Speaking out on the Frankly Speaking podcast with Lynne Franks Mel said: "I went into the studio and I didn’t think Keith was going to be like he was on the other show that he does where it’s all sex and blow jobs and talking about people’s a***holes and all that.

"I sat there for a three-hour record and he did all of that stuff to me verbally to entertain the live audience - because it was never going to make the edit of the actual show, because it was a family, Saturday night show, so he used me to entertain the audience."

She explained: "I had Jonathan Ross to my right and Ashley Banjo to my left and the first thing that Keith said to me, in character - 'I bet your a***hole smells of flowers'."

She continued: "It makes me want to cry right now because I was just so caught in the headlights and wasn't expecting it.

"It went from bad to worse, I kept thinking 'what am I going to do?' I can't get up and storm out because it will be all over the newspapers that I've walked out and it will, of course, be my fault, everybody in the audience has a mobile phone so they could see.

"So for three hours I struggled through that. I got home that night and I cried all night and I rang my agent in the morning and told him about my experience and I said 'I don't really know what I'm going to do about it'.

"So I rang the head of the production company, and said, 'when you make the edit can you make sure I don't look out of my depth, angry or upset, because I don't have a poker face, because it's detrimental to me.

"And they agreed for me to part of the edit and that I would approve the edit, and I said, 'It was a terrible experience' she said 'you're the first person that has ever ever complained about him' and I said ' I don't care.'

"And this was before MeToo by the way, so it wasn't like I felt strongly because of it.

"I said 'you and I know that there's loads of women who don't say anything, it doesn't mean it's not happening.'

"So all of these things can hit the cutting room floor but my experience still lives and breathes, it still lives and breathes as I'm telling you about it now."

Last year the 50-year-old mum-of-two spoke about the shortfallings of British men with Frank magazine to mark her landmark birthday.

And she said some British men are like the smutty TV character.

She said: "I feel a bit sorry for British men who have adopted the limited vocabulary of the television character, Keith Lemon, when talking about, and to women."

Mel, who has two teenage sons Roman and Valentino, said she hopes her boys will turn into 'decent men'.

Production company Talkback declined to comment when contacted by the Mirror.

Leigh's representatives have also been contacted.
