Melania Trump has accused one of her husband's former aides of 'lashing out' after she claimed the First Lady was 'counting the minutes' to divorce her husband.
Omarosa Manigault Newman, an ex-political adviser to Trump, said the couple's relationship was over and Melania was simply waiting for the President to lose power before leaving him.
The former Apprentice contestant also told TV show host Lorraine Kelly that Melania was 'repulsed' by her husband.
Speculation is now mounting over the future of the President and his wife's marriage after he lost the election to Joe Biden.
In her 2018 book, Unhinged: An Insider's Account of the Trump White House, Newman wrote: "In my opinion, Melania is counting every minute until he is out of office and she can divorce him.
"If Melania were to try to pull the ultimate humiliation and leave him while he's in office, he would find a way to punish her."
She added that Trump could potentially try to revoke his wife's citizenship.
However, in August the First Lady's spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham previously slammed Newman, claiming she barely knew Melania.
According to the Sun, Ms Grisham said: “Mrs Trump rarely, if ever, interacted with Omarosa.
"It’s disappointing to her that she is lashing out and retaliating in such a self-serving way, especially after all the opportunities given to her by the President.”
Trump's former press secretary Sarah Sanders previously said Newman’s book was 'riddled with lies and false accusations'.
Newman last month told Lorraine Kelly that the Trumps had a 'very strange marriage'.
She said: "I'm very cautious to comment on the dynamics of a marriage because you never know what goes on behind closed doors.
"But I have known this couple since they were dating, they got married a year after The Apprentice aired.
"What I have observed in the last 17 years would make your head spin. Sometimes they like each other but sometimes she is repulsed by him."
