Melania Trump is reportedly “happy and relaxed” with life after the White House, and is laying low, according to people familiar with the former first lady.
In fact, life for Ms Trump at Mar-a-Lago is thought to be not too different from that of the four years in Washington DC, when she kept a low profile, CNN reported on Wednesday.
She is thought to be in favour of the southern Florida resort where the Trump’s are residing, and laying low – with no official appearances in public from the former first lady.
And despite keeping an office with staff and a presidential-style seal, CNN reported, “she continues to do what she wants when she wants and is not beholden to the norms of conventional post-first lady duties”.
Three people familiar with her appearances for dinner with the former president described Ms Trump as looking “happy and relaxed”, and says she frequently waves and smiles at other diners.
During the day, she allegedly visits the on-site spar at Mar-a-Lago for treatments, and sometimes pays a second visit.
“She's not a presence at Mar-a-Lago at all,” a person familiar with the former first couple told CNN. “She's not mingling with people and rarely interacts with her husband's staff.”
In the afternoons, she reportedly spends time with the couple's 15-year-old son, Barron, and often dines with her parents, if not Mr Trump, in the evenings.
Ms Trump infamously remained living at Trump Tower in Manhattan, New York, for months after Donald Trump’s inauguration in 2017, and lived in a separate suite of rooms during the couple’s time at the White House.
CNN also reported in December that Ms Trump was keen on leaving the White House and “ just wants to go home”.
Her husband, in comparison, has made a number of media and in-person appearances after leaving office in January.
